DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The U.S. Department of Agriculture appointed Troy Romero as Louisiana's state director for rural development. His role focuses on connecting rural communities with financial resources such as grants and low-interest loans.

Romero highlighted the $27 billion Meta data center project in Richland Parish as a significant development requiring enhanced local services like hospitals and clinics. USDA's rural development section aims to support economic development, job creation, and essential services.

Romero, who resigned from the Louisiana Legislature on December 14, 2023, began his federal role the following day, with support from Governor Jeff Landry. A former agriculture committee chair, Romero was first elected in 2019 and ran unopposed in 2023. He has a background in constructing athletic turf fields and experience in the sugar cane industry.
