Uzbekistan Allocates UZS 2.2 Trillion for Karakalpakstan Water Supply Improvement
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION
The Government of Uzbekistan is investing UZS 2.2 trillion to develop centralized drinking water supply systems in Karakalpakstan, aiming for 83.5% coverage by 2030. This project, formalized in a presidential decree on February 21, will utilize international loans, state and local budgets, and private contributions.
Plans include constructing 1,719 kilometers of water networks, 56 new wells, and 36 water facilities. An agreement with the Asian Development Bank will allocate $200 million for regional projects starting in 2027. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of mobilizing resources for sustainable development in the region.
