Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Collaborate on Water Resource Management and Hydropower Projects
Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Saidikram Niyazhodjaev, discussed ongoing cooperation in water resource distribution and management. The two countries, along with Kazakhstan, are addressing water shortages through a joint commission and trilateral efforts. The Kambar-Ata Hydroelectric Power Plant 1 project and water-saving technology initiatives in Uzbekistan are key components of this collaboration. Uzbekistan aims to expand water-saving technology usage to 3.5 million hectares by 2028.

The nations meet regularly to discuss water use efficiency, climate change adaptation, and reservoir operations.
The Kambar-Ata Hydroelectric Power Plant 1 is a significant project in this regional cooperation. Uzbekistan is investing heavily in water-saving technologies, with plans to increase their application from 60 percent of irrigated land by 2026 to 80 percent by 2028, aiming to save 2.5 billion cubic meters of water annually. A new program for water management through 2028 emphasizes training and modernization efforts.
