Vaisala Launches Origo to Reduce Cooling Energy Waste in Data Centers by $805 Million Annually

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Vaisala has introduced Origo, a next-generation modular measurement platform designed to enhance environmental monitoring in data centers. Approximately 80% of the world's 12,000 data centers rely on air cooling.

Correcting a 'half degree' error could save around $805 million in annual cooling energy waste, totaling about $8 billion over ten years, based on typical 10 MW facilities. A temperature deviation of just 0.5 °C in a 10 MW data center can lead to over $800,000 in wasted energy costs over a decade.

As data centers account for about 1.5% of global energy consumption, precise measurement is crucial for managing energy use and emissions. Origo features a temperature accuracy of ±0.1 °C and relative humidity accuracy of ±1% rH, suitable for critical environments like data centers and clean rooms. Its replaceable sensors allow for quick updates with minimal disruption.
