Vaisala's Refractometers Enhance Alkaline Electrolysis Development in Germany
A collaborative project in Germany is implementing Vaisala's refractometers to optimize alkaline electrolysis for green hydrogen production. This advanced measurement technology is crucial for monitoring KOH concentrations, aiming to improve efficiency and sustainability in electrolyser stacks.

Engineers from iChemAnalytics, Dr.-Ing. Max Schlötter, and WHW Hillebrand are developing a test bench for alkaline electrolysis, utilizing Vaisala's inline refractometers to monitor KOH concentrations reliably.
The refractometers are designed to operate in harsh conditions, providing real-time measurements while remaining unaffected by suspended particles or fouling. The project aims to enhance the performance and durability of electrolysers, with KOH concentration management being critical for operational efficiency.
The integration of Vaisala's technology allows for accelerated stress testing and optimization of electrolyser components, supporting the transition to low-carbon energy solutions. This innovation may lead to improved profitability and reduced operational costs for hydrogen production facilities.
