Vale Indonesia Invests in Battery-Grade Nickel Amid EV Demand
Vale Indonesia is investing billions in battery-grade nickel, anticipating sustained demand for nickel-based electric vehicle batteries despite the rise of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The company believes that nickel-rich batteries will remain valuable for high-performance vehicles, as expressed by vice-president director Abu Ashar.

Vale Indonesia is committing to a multibillion-dollar investment in battery-grade nickel, driven by expectations that demand for nickel-based electric vehicle (EV) batteries will persist despite the increasing popularity of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The company's strategy suggests that nickel-rich batteries, known for higher energy density, will coexist with LFP batteries, especially in high-performance vehicles. Vice-president director Abu Ashar noted that major manufacturers like BYD continue to utilize nickel-based batteries alongside LFP options.
