Vantage Data Centers' Winterthur Facility Faces Delays in Heat Recovery Agreement
Vantage Data Centers' second building in Winterthur is set to open in 2027, delayed from an initial 2024 target due to changing customer needs. The facility will consume 220 to 260 GWh of electricity annually, with discussions ongoing about utilizing waste heat for local heating. A 16 million CHF loan has been requested by the city council for infrastructure to connect to the heating network.

Vantage Data Centers is constructing a second building in Winterthur, expected to be operational by 2027, delayed from 2024 due to evolving customer demands. The facility will require 220 to 260 GWh of electricity annually, with cooling needs on hot days comparable to half the city's consumption.
Discussions since mid-2023 involve integrating waste heat into the district heating network, potentially providing 16 MW for heating local buildings. Although no contract exists yet, preparations for heat transfer have been made. The city council has requested a 16 million CHF loan to construct infrastructure for future heat transport from the datacenter.
