Vattenfall and Startup Develop Offshore Data Centers; U.S. Investment in Dutch Deeptech Rises
Vattenfall and Project Enki are exploring the construction of offshore data centers near wind farms to address energy demands. Concurrently, U.S. investment in Dutch deeptech is increasing, with a notable rise in deals over €50 million, signaling potential for rapid scaling but necessitating protective regulations.

Vattenfall and Project Enki are assessing the feasibility of building small data centers offshore, utilizing existing platforms near wind farms for direct energy supply and water cooling. Meanwhile, the share of U.S. investors in Dutch deeptech deals rose from 8% in 2020 to 17% in 2025, indicating a significant opportunity for Dutch companies to expand globally.
However, the need for regulations to retain critical technologies domestically remains apparent. In a separate development, No Waste Army is expanding into Belgium to combat food waste, targeting a joint revenue of €10 million with Waste Warriors this year. Additionally, companies like Vertoro and Billy Grace have secured substantial funding to enhance their respective technologies and market reach.
