Vattenfall has taken a full Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Nordlicht offshore wind cluster, consisting of Nordlicht I and II, following the irrevocable permit from the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH). Construction is set to start in 2026, with Nordlicht I expected to be operational in 2028, contributing over 1.6 GW to Germany's energy supply.
Monopile installation for Nordlicht I will begin in Q3 2026, while Nordlicht II will follow a year later. This project aims to support Germany's energy transition and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Vattenfall's sustainability efforts include using low-emission steel for turbine towers, reducing carbon footprint by 16%. The Nordlicht cluster is located approximately 50 miles north of Borkum.
