Vattenfall Secures Financing for Nordlicht Offshore Wind Development in Germany
Germany's Nordlicht offshore wind development has achieved a significant financing milestone, securing full Final Investment Decision (FID) for two wind farms, Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2. These projects, with a combined capacity of 1.6 GW, will generate approximately 6 TWh of clean electricity annually, enough to supply 1.6 million households. The project has received an irrevocable permit from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency and involves collaborations with major banks and turbine manufacturer Vestas.

The Nordlicht offshore wind development in Germany has secured key financing, achieving Full Final Investment Decision (FID) on January 13, 2026, for Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2. These wind farms will have a combined capacity of 1.6 GW and are expected to generate 6 TWh of clean electricity per year, sufficient for 1.6 million households.
The project received an irrevocable permit from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency. Vattenfall partnered with Vestas to order 68 V236-15.0 MW turbines for Nordlicht 1. Financing details remain undisclosed but involve agreements with major banks and export credit agencies.
