On July 30, 2026, Veolia announced it will manage a 350 MW microgrid in New Albany, Ohio, intended to power an AI data center campus without relying on the public grid. This microgrid will utilize on-site generation and large-scale battery storage to ensure uninterrupted energy supply.
The project's scale indicates a significant commitment, with between 35 to 40 full-time employees required for continuous operation. The microgrid model addresses critical energy supply issues, allowing for rapid deployment of AI infrastructure, which is essential amid competitive pressures from companies like Moonshot AI and Kimi K3.
The New Albany site is strategically positioned as a data center hub due to favorable regulations and available resources, enhancing the competitive landscape for AI developments.
