Veolia's ACT Recycling Plant Costs Rise to $37 Million with Increased Capacity
The cost of the new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Hume, ACT, has risen to $37 million, an increase of $11 million from the initial estimate of $26 million. Veolia will cover the additional expenses while maintaining a 20-year operating contract with the ACT Government, which contributes $26 million. The facility is designed to process 115,000 tonnes of recyclables annually and features advanced sorting technology and fire safety systems. Construction is expected to create over 100 jobs.

The project operates under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model. The MRF will process up to 115,000 tonnes of recyclables annually, enhancing capacity and incorporating advanced technology for sorting.
Construction is expected to create over 100 jobs, with 24 permanent positions following operational launch. The facility will also feature advanced fire safety systems to prevent future incidents.
