Victoria Offers Free Public Transport for One Month Amid Rising Fuel Prices
The Victorian Government has implemented a temporary free public transport initiative from March 31 to April 30, 2026, across all metro and regional services, including trains, trams, buses, and V/Line. This measure aims to alleviate pressure from rising fuel prices due to an energy shock from the Middle East conflict. Passengers will not need to tap on with Myki cards, and existing passes will be paused. Tasmania has also announced a similar initiative for three months, offering free rides on buses and ferries.
