Vietnam Implements Production Pricing for Data Centers Following Ministry Directive
Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade has directed EVN to apply production electricity pricing for data centers, acknowledging their role in digital infrastructure. This shift aims to stabilize operational costs and support the growth of the digital economy.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has instructed EVN to establish production pricing for data centers, as outlined in Circular No. 60/2025/TT-BCT. This directive follows a meeting on March 19, 2026, with various stakeholders, where the Ministry of Science and Technology emphasized that data centers are integral to the digital economy and should be classified under production tariffs.
Previous classifications had imposed commercial electricity rates on data centers, resulting in over 50% cost increases for some operators since December 2025. Electricity costs represent a significant portion of data center operating expenses, impacting financial planning and investment capabilities. The directive aims to ensure stable pricing to enhance Vietnam's competitiveness in attracting clients from global markets, particularly in light of the importance of affordable electricity for the growth of this sector.
