Vietnam PM Assigns Missions to Tech Leaders for Private Sector Development

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

At a government meeting on January 31, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed major enterprises to lead key industries under Resolution 68 for private-sector development. The aim is to create competitive 'locomotives' for the broader private sector.

CMC Technology Group presented policy challenges, emphasizing data governance and infrastructure pricing. Chinh proposed establishing a mechanism for selecting 'pioneer enterprises' and suggested forming a Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Association to enhance AI capabilities.

Concerns regarding Vietnam's competitive data policies were raised, particularly in comparison to Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Chinh also highlighted the importance of stable electricity pricing for data centers, which are seen as foundational to the digital economy.

He called for more economic and tech diplomacy to support outbound growth. The meeting concluded with a mandate to assign clear missions to enterprises and improve implementation mechanisms for Resolution 68.
