Vietnam's Energy Security Plan: Strategies for Supply and Demand Management by 2026
Vietnam's energy security strategy aims to enhance electricity supply and efficiency by 2026, addressing rising demand and potential climate impacts. The coordinated approach involves infrastructure upgrades and incentivizing renewable energy to stabilize supply amid expected temperature extremes.

The national energy security resolution, targeting 2030 with a vision to 2045, emphasizes enhanced electricity supply solutions in the face of increasing demand, particularly during hot seasons. By 2026, a 14% peak load increase is anticipated under extreme conditions, with national electricity consumption surpassing 1 billion kWh as early as March 31.
Measures include reinforcing existing power sources, upgrading the transmission network, and promoting local energy production. The BOT Vung Ang 2 project adds 1,200 MW, while upgrades to 500 kV stations improve electricity transfer to northern regions.
As the demand rises, especially in industrial and tourism sectors, households and businesses are adopting energy-saving measures and solar energy systems to mitigate costs. The local government is preparing for extreme weather, aiming for effective electricity management during peak times.
