Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade Updates National Energy Master Plan for 2021-30 to Support Economic Growth
Vietnam is revising its national energy master plan for 2021-30 to accommodate a revised economic growth target of double-digit expansion from 2026-30. The updates are influenced by technological advances, national planning changes, and demand projections. The draft plan emphasizes energy security, with total final energy demand expected to reach 120-130 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030, and renewable energy to comprise 25-30% of total energy supply by 2030. It also includes plans for green hydrogen production and aims to develop clean energy hubs across the country.

Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade is updating the national energy master plan for 2021-30 in response to a new economic growth target of double-digit expansion for 2026-30. The revisions reflect changing energy demand projections and the need for energy security.
Key metrics include a projected energy demand of 120-130 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030 and a renewable energy share of 25-30% of total primary energy supply. Plans include enhancing LNG import capacity and targeting green hydrogen production of 100,000-200,000 tonnes annually by 2030. The draft also aims to establish two renewable energy industrial centres and export 5,000-10,000 megawatts of electricity.
