Vilnius to Launch Green Hydrogen Plant for Public Transport with EU Support
A 10 million-euro green hydrogen plant in Vilnius is set to produce clean fuel for public transport by autumn. Developed by Miesto Gijos, the facility will supply hydrogen for the city's first hydrogen-powered buses, with initial deployment of 10 buses planned. The project, funded 70% by the EU, aims for hydrogen production to start in July or August, producing up to 3.45 million cubic meters annually and generating excess heat for the district heating network.

Vilnius is constructing a 10 million-euro green hydrogen plant to power its public transport, expected to start production by autumn. Developed by Miesto Gijos, the plant will supply hydrogen for the city's first hydrogen-fueled buses, with 10 buses planned for initial deployment.
A public tender for bus suppliers will conclude in March, and operations are set to begin in November. The facility will produce up to 3.45 million cubic meters of green hydrogen annually using electrolysis, and excess heat will be utilized in the district heating network. The European Union is funding 70% of the project.
