Vodafone and Neqsol Holding to Build €100 Million Submarine Cable Connecting Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine, and Turkey

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Kardesa project involves a new underwater telecommunications system connecting Bulgaria and Georgia, and linking to Turkey and Ukraine. Valued at over €100 million, the system is part of a larger telecommunications corridor known as the 'Digital Silk Road,' extending through Georgia, Azerbaijan, the Caspian Sea, and Kazakhstan into Central and East Asia.

Vodafone and Neqsol Holding are the main investors. The first segment of the Kardesa cable is set to begin in Bulgaria in 2027, connecting to secure areas in Ukraine, Georgia, and Turkey, while bypassing conflict zones.

This project aims to create a digital corridor alongside physical trade routes, providing transit revenue for countries like Azerbaijan and Georgia, improving data transmission speeds, attracting foreign capital, and establishing data centers in landing locations. The strategy also emphasizes economic security by avoiding risky regions like Russia.
