Vodafone Portugal Conducts First Secure Video Call Using Quantum Technology
Vodafone Portugal executed the country's first secure video call utilizing quantum encryption on April 17. This demonstration, part of World Quantum Day, involved a test connecting three locations in Lisbon and aimed to validate the infrastructure's capacity for advanced security solutions amid the evolution of quantum computing.

On April 17, Vodafone Portugal successfully conducted a secure video call using Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology, marking a significant milestone in telecommunications. This test connected the Vodafone Innovation Hub, a data center, and the QuTe Lab at the Instituto Superior Técnico via a next-generation optical fiber network.
The integration of the QuKy platform from ThinkQuantum illustrates how advanced security measures can be incorporated into existing network infrastructures. This initiative is vital for enhancing cybersecurity across critical sectors such as healthcare, banking, and energy. The trial indicates Vodafone's preparation for future quantum communication technologies and responds to potential threats from advancements in quantum computing.
