Voith Hydro Unveils $5M Boring Mill for Hydropower Equipment in Pennsylvania
Voith Hydro has launched a $5 million, 200-ton PAMA horizontal boring mill (HBM) at its Pennsylvania plant to enhance hydropower manufacturing capabilities. The facility is a key player in the clean energy economy, employing nearly 350 professionals. Voith is also involved in hydropower projects in Angola and Brazil, with significant equipment supply and modernization efforts underway. The company aims to contribute to local energy production and workforce training. Additionally, portable hydropower turbines, particularly Archimedes screw turbines, show promise for decentralized energy solutions in remote areas.

Voith Hydro introduced a $5 million PAMA horizontal boring mill at its Pennsylvania facility, enhancing capabilities in manufacturing hydropower equipment. The facility is one of the largest dedicated hydropower turbine manufacturing sites in the world, employing about 350 professionals.
Voith is supplying equipment for the Caculo Cabaça hydropower plant in Angola, which will connect to the grid with a capacity of 2,172 MW. In Brazil, Andritz is modernizing COPEL's hydropower plant, while in Malaysia, TNB Power Generation has contracted Andritz for rehabilitating the Chenderoh plant.
Norway's Vamma hydropower plant will also undergo modernization, with Andritz contracted for unit upgrades. NEK in Bulgaria is rehabilitating its hydropower facilities, with contracts signed for units at the Chaira plant. Portable hydropower solutions like Archimedes screw turbines are being explored for off-grid applications, showcasing potential for sustainable energy generation.
