Volt Resources Restarts Zavalievsky Graphite Plant in Ukraine, Targets US and European Markets
Volt Resources' Zavalievsky Graphite plant in Ukraine resumed operations, producing over 19 tonnes of battery-grade graphite in March 2026. This marked the first commercial-scale processing of African flake graphite. The plant sold its entire batch to a European battery company, with plans to fulfill orders for US customers. The facility's ability to process non-Ukrainian ore demonstrates its flexibility amid rising production costs and previous operational disruptions. Volt is also developing a graphite refinery in Alabama, USA.

Volt Resources has restarted its Zavalievsky Graphite plant in Zavalla, Ukraine, after a 2.5-month winter pause, producing over 19 tonnes of battery-grade graphite in March 2026, sold to a European battery company at $3,000 per tonne. For the first time, the plant processed flake graphite from an African mine, achieving an 87% production yield.
The plant's operations had previously halted due to rising costs and supply chain pressures, notably from China, which controls 82% of global graphite production. Volt is also developing a graphite refinery in Alabama, designed to accept ore from multiple sources. Ongoing discussions with US defense and commercial companies for non-Chinese graphite supplies are in progress.
