A trial in Wales is comparing hydrogen and battery electric refuse trucks to evaluate their performance and operational efficiency. This initiative, led by Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) with support from Caerphilly County Borough Council, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Ricardo, and Hyppo, aims to generate real-world data on energy usage, range, and suitability for various terrains.

The Welsh Government has allocated over £420,000 in funding for the project. The findings will assist local authorities in making informed decisions regarding zero-emission fleet technology.
