Warrenton Board Approves Data Center Development Near I-70

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Warrenton Board of Aldermen approved a conditional use permit and site plan for a data center near Interstate 70, voting unanimously 6-0 on both measures. The proposal involves two buildings of approximately 800,000 square feet each, alongside an electric substation, switchyard, and administration building, led by Crusoe Energy Systems.

Following the approval, the project will undergo a land disturbance review and additional permitting for construction. Conditions imposed include reducing non-emergency lighting by 70% when inactive, maintaining noise levels at 60 dBA and 70 dBC at property lines, and relocating generators to minimize noise.

The Planning & Zoning Commission also required additional trees in landscaping. The project is projected to generate $80 million annually in property taxes, create around 2,000 construction jobs, and at least 100 permanent jobs, with timelines for further development still to be determined.
