Watercare Initiates $12M Wastewater Network Upgrades in Warkworth
Watercare is commencing a $12 million project to reline 3.5 kilometers of wastewater pipes in Warkworth to enhance network resilience and reduce wet-weather overflows. The project is part of a broader $450 million investment program aimed at transforming wastewater management in the Warkworth and Snells/Algies Beach communities. Works include CCTV inspections and trenchless relining methods to extend the lifespan of aging pipes, with completion expected by December 2026 for the first stage.

Watercare is upgrading the Warkworth wastewater network with a $12 million project that includes relining 3.5 kilometers of pipes to reduce stormwater inflow and prevent wet-weather overflows into the Mahurangi River. Inspections will begin this month in the area north of Elizabeth St, where a bottleneck exists.
The relining process, using trenchless technology, aims to extend the lifespan of pipes built in the 1960s and 70s. This initiative is part of Watercare's larger $450 million program, which also includes the Warkworth growth-servicing pipeline expected to be fully operational by 2027, addressing capacity and environmental concerns.
