Weaverville Council Blocks Cryptocurrency Mining Operations
Weaverville, N.C. has enacted a code change to prevent the establishment of cryptocurrency mining facilities. This decision is aimed at conserving local resources amid rising energy demands from such operations.

The Weaverville Town Council unanimously approved a measure on April 27 to prohibit cryptocurrency mining operations in the town. This initiative was prompted by concerns over the high energy and water usage associated with crypto mining, which strains local resources.
The council aims to deter such projects before any proposals are submitted, particularly as similar facilities have emerged across North Carolina. The town is wary of becoming a target for data centers attracted by lower electricity costs, following the trend seen in Cherokee and Rutherford counties.
