Weld County Delays Data Center Zoning Rules Final Reading to April 6
The Weld County Board of County Commissioners postponed the final reading of an ordinance defining 'data center' and zoning areas for development to April 6 at 9am. This delay allows for additional public input and review. Residents have raised concerns about noise, water usage, and infrastructure demands. The ordinance would permit data centers in industrial and agricultural zones under specific review processes. A proposed data center by Global AI is under consideration, which aims to minimize agricultural land impact.

Weld County Commissioners have delayed the final reading of an ordinance defining 'data center' and zoning areas for their development to April 6, 9am, to allow for public input. The proposed data center by Global AI, located between Windsor and Greeley, is viewed as an economic opportunity.
Concerns regarding noise, water usage, and infrastructure have led to the extension. The ordinance would allow data centers in industrial zones with an administrative Site Plan Review and in agricultural zones with a Use by Special Review permit.
The proposed project would use water equivalent to an average household annually. Legislation HB26-1030 is under consideration to set standards for water cooling systems and offer a 100% state sales tax exemption for 20 years on qualified data center infrastructure.
