Welsh Government Inspectors to Rule on Wrexham Green Energy Battery Project After Committee Misses Deadline

ENERGY STORAGE

Welsh Government planning inspectors are set to decide on a 5.5-hectare green energy battery project in Wrexham after the planning committee failed to meet a decision deadline. The Rhostyllen project, proposed by Innova Renewables, aims to use part of a 17-hectare agricultural site to install 118 energy storage system units, capable of storing 400 megawatts of electricity.

The application, amended on December 13, will now be reviewed by inspectors from Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) due to the committee's inaction. Local opposition has been noted, including concerns about agricultural land loss and fire risks, despite support from planning officers for the development's role in transitioning to low carbon energy.
