West Cobar Advances Copper and Scandium Projects with New Drilling Plans
West Cobar Metals (ASX:WC1) is initiating aircore drilling at the Blind Freddie copper target in New South Wales this quarter, while also advancing plans for higher-grade scandium drilling at Salazar in Western Australia. These developments underscore the company's strategy to enhance resource delineation and capitalize on diversified commodity opportunities.

West Cobar Metals is set to commence aircore drilling at the Blind Freddie copper target in New South Wales, targeting a significant surface copper-gold anomaly coinciding with a gravity high. Concurrently, approvals are progressing for a ground gravity survey at the Lilyvale site, scheduled for Q3 2026, aimed at identifying further copper drilling targets.
In Western Australia, the company is planning closer-spaced drilling around higher-grade scandium zones at the Salazar Newmont deposit. This site is estimated to contain a larger critical minerals system, including 230Mt at 1178ppm TREO.
The metallurgical studies are revealing lower-cost processing routes for scandium extraction, which could enhance the project's economic viability. These initiatives are critical as global demand for secure scandium supplies increases, particularly in advanced technologies.
