West Sussex County Council to Launch 16MW Battery Storage and Solar Projects in 2026
West Sussex County Council plans to roll out energy projects in 2026, featuring a 16MW battery storage site and solar PV systems on schools and public buildings. The Halewick Lane Energy Park, developed with Enable Infrastructure, will store excess electricity for later use, addressing increased demand for renewable energy.
Over 70 solar PV systems have been installed, with a program to add systems to about 60 more sites. The council will also launch an Energy Reinvestment Fund to support insulation and low-energy lighting upgrades. Existing projects generate 17 MWh of green electricity annually, powering over 6,300 homes and yielding more than £2 million in net income.
