West Virginia Introduces Tax Incentives for Coal-Powered Data Centers
West Virginia Senator Brian Helton has introduced Senate Bill 623, the 'West Virginia-Powered Data Center Incentive Act,' which offers tax incentives for data centers that utilize coal-generated electricity. To qualify, these centers must invest at least $50 million, create 50 jobs, and rely on coal for 80% of their operations. The bill is currently under review by the Committee on Economic Development and the Committee on Finance.

Senator Brian Helton introduced Senate Bill 623, the 'West Virginia-Powered Data Center Incentive Act,' which provides tax incentives for data centers using coal-generated electricity. The bill offers property tax exemptions and sales tax exemptions for equipment purchases, as well as utility tax credits for coal-fired electric utilities.
To qualify, data centers must invest $50 million, create 50 jobs, and use coal for 80% of operations. The bill was referred to the Committee on Economic Development and the Committee on Finance for approval.
