The West Virginia Public Service Commission has approved a siting certificate for a 140-megawatt solar project by Twisted Gun Solar LLC and Twisted Gun BESS LLC in Mingo and Logan counties. Approved on Jan. 28, the project will not affect residents' rates.

Located on a reclaimed surface mine, it will include around 310,000 solar modules and a 70-megawatt battery storage system. The facility will connect to Appalachian Power's substation through a nine-mile transmission line.

It is projected to power about 84,000 homes, create 1,099 jobs, and generate over $2.4 million annually for West Virginia, with $1.4 million for Mingo County. Construction must commence within five years and be completed in ten.
