Westfield Data Center Proposal by Servistar Realties Remains Unbuilt Amid Permitting Issues

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Servistar Realties' proposed hyper-scale data center in Westfield, Massachusetts, appears abandoned despite initial approvals and tax incentives. Approved by the Westfield City Council in 2021, the project promised to be the largest data center in the state, requiring significantly more power than existing facilities.

However, there has been no contact between developers and the city since a special permit was returned as 'refused' in 2021. Servistar's corporation was administratively dissolved in 2024 due to failure to file annual reports, limiting its ability to conduct business.

Despite favorable tax arrangements, including a 40-year PILOT agreement, the project has stalled, with no environmental permits filed and no construction progress. Local officials express concerns over the project's future, while the region's high electricity costs and aging infrastructure pose challenges for data center operations.
