Wheatland Residents Oppose Robin Energy Storage's Proposed 200-MW Battery Project

ENERGY STORAGE

Residents of Wheatland are expressing strong opposition to a proposed 200-megawatt lithium-ion battery energy storage project by Robin Energy Storage. The facility would occupy approximately 12 acres in an area currently designated for agriculture.

Concerns raised include safety, environmental risks, and proximity to local schools, where over 1,300 students are enrolled. Despite the company offering $8.6 million to the town over 20 years, including $1 million upfront, more than 100 residents attended a town meeting to voice their objections.

Both the planning and zoning commission and the town board voted against the project. Following the rejection, Robin Energy Storage withdrew its application but indicated plans to resubmit in the future, asserting compliance with local ordinances. Residents feel that their concerns are not being adequately addressed and are worried about their community's integrity.
