Wilmington Council Advances Rezoning for Four Parcels Near AWS Site
Wilmington City Council has advanced the rezoning of four parcels totaling over 545 acres from rural residential to light industrial near a planned AWS data center. The prospective buyer, Ardent, aims to invest $6 billion over five to six years, potentially creating 125 to 150 jobs. Despite concerns raised by the Clinton County Regional Planning Commission, the council moved forward with the rezonings following a previous unanimous recommendation for approval.

Wilmington City Council reviewed four proposed rezonings from rural residential to light industrial for over 545 acres near a planned AWS data center. The parcels include 119.373 acres owned by L.T. Land Development LLC and 65.29 acres owned by Matthew Thompson.
Ardent, a real estate development firm, is the prospective buyer, planning a $6 billion investment over five to six years, potentially creating 125 to 150 jobs. The council has moved the rezonings forward despite a recommendation from the Clinton County Regional Planning Commission to table them due to unresolved questions regarding the AWS project. The planning commission previously recommended the rezoning unanimously.
