Winchester City Council's planning committee approved a Battery Energy Storage System on a 2.6-hectare site near Wickham, proposed by Greenergy. The facility will feature 40 battery units within security fencing and lighting.
Greenergy has requested a temporary 35-year permission. Concerns were raised by residents regarding safety and environmental impact, with calls for more assessments. The project aims to store excess renewable energy and could connect to the National Grid sooner due to regulatory changes. A 3.5-meter acoustic fence will be installed to mitigate noise, and conditions on operational hours may be enforced.
