Wind Tre Extends Partnership with Ericsson for 5G Core Network Modernization
Wind Tre has selected Ericsson to modernize its core network over a seven-year agreement from 2026 to 2032. This collaboration aims to enhance services, improve energy efficiency, and reduce the number of data centers from 18 to 12. The modernization will deploy Ericsson's dual-mode 5G Core solution, supporting both 4G and 5G users, and introduce advanced services including network slicing.

Wind Tre has reconfirmed its partnership with Ericsson to modernize its core network from 2026 to 2032. The agreement expands on a previous partnership initiated in 2022 and includes the deployment of Ericsson's dual-mode 5G Core solution.
This modernization will support all 4G and 5G services, enhance network automation, and reduce operational costs by consolidating data centers from 18 to 12. Key technologies involved include Packet Core, User Data Management, and Network Location Services. The project aims to improve energy efficiency and facilitate new 5G capabilities aligned with 3GPP R17.
