Windhoek Initiates N$280 Million Khomas Intake Substation Project
The City of Windhoek is investing N$280 million in the Khomas Intake Substation to enhance electricity supply. This project is crucial for meeting the rising energy demand linked to urban growth and will establish a second power source for the city.

Windhoek is advancing its energy infrastructure with the Khomas Intake Substation project, valued at N$280 million. Funding comprises N$208 million from the City and N$72 million from the central government.
This facility will serve as the city’s second power supply point, alleviating reliance on the Van Eck Substation, which has reached its capacity limit. The managing contractor reports that construction is on schedule for completion by the end of the year, with commissioning expected in February 2027. This project is essential for supporting residential and commercial growth in Windhoek, ensuring a more reliable electricity supply.
