Wolfe County Sanitation District Secures $3 Million for Wastewater Treatment Plant
Wolfe County Sanitation District has reached its funding goal to commence the Hazel Green Wastewater Treatment Project, essential for addressing failing septic systems in the region. The project will improve local infrastructure, support industrial expansion, and enhance public health outcomes.

The Wolfe County Sanitation District has secured a $3 million grant for the Hazel Green Wastewater Treatment Project, allowing it to move forward with the construction of a new facility. This funding complements $2.8 million previously acquired from the Appalachian Regional Commission and the Abandoned Mine Land program, totaling approximately half of the project's financial needs.
The treatment plant will enable local industries, including LION Apparel and JSW Farm Chop Shop, to expand operations and create jobs. The facility is projected to improve public health by addressing issues related to failing septic systems. The timeline for project completion is estimated at 18-24 months, contingent on environmental studies and procedural requirements.
