Wrangell Economic Development Board Supports Greensparc's Small-Scale Data Center Lease Proposal

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Wrangell Economic Development Board recommended a land lease for California-based Greensparc to build a small-scale data center on one or two acres at the former 6-Mile Mill property. The board voted 5-0 on January 5, pending considerations of water discharge, noise, light pollution, sales tax revenues, and electricity demand impacts.

Greensparc's proposed 10,000-square-foot facility would consume only 1 to 2 megawatts of power, significantly less than larger data centers. The project could generate over $1 million annually for Wrangell's electric utility, which expects around $4.75 million in power sales this year.

The facility will utilize a closed-loop cooling system with no water discharge or emissions. The borough is also exploring backup diesel generators for potential industrial uses at the site.
