Wrightbus CEO Warns of UK's Economic Decline Without Pro-Business Policies
Jo Bamford, owner of Wrightbus, emphasizes the critical need for government support for UK businesses to prevent economic decline. With 2,500 employees, Bamford argues that a lack of engagement with the business sector is detrimental to growth, particularly in regions outside London.

Jo Bamford, owner of Wrightbus, warns that the UK may face significant economic decline unless the Labour government adopts a more supportive stance towards businesses. Wrightbus, which employs 2,500 people in Northern Ireland, was acquired by Bamford in 2019 and is one of only two UK bus manufacturers.
Bamford indicates that inadequate support threatens to hollow out communities, particularly in areas beyond London, leading to job losses and decreased public services. He has also noted a disconnect between politicians and the business community, citing his limited interaction with key government officials. Bamford, who has advanced hydrogen bus technology, calls for urgent government engagement to foster economic stability.
