WTO Establishes Outcome-Tracking Mechanism for Market Access Trade Concerns
The WTO has introduced a structured outcome-driven system for its Committee on Market Access to track trade concerns. At a recent meeting, 33 concerns were raised, including six related to India's import policies. A new agenda item will allow for updates on previously raised issues, clarifying that lack of discussion does not imply resolution. Members retain legal rights to raise concerns again, and the Secretariat will review unresolved issues every two years.

The WTO's Committee on Market Access (CMA) has adopted a new decision to implement an outcome-tracking mechanism for trade concerns. During the meeting on March 16-17, 33 concerns were raised, six of which pertained to India's import restrictions on various goods.
India is also involved in seven concerns against other members, including the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. The CMA will now include a standing agenda item titled 'reports on resolution of trade concerns' to facilitate updates.
The decision clarifies that the absence of discussion in subsequent meetings does not indicate resolution and preserves members' legal rights to revisit concerns. A review of unresolved issues will be conducted biennially.
