Wyoming DEQ Approves Water Quality Certification for Seminoe Pumped Storage Project
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality has issued a Clean Water Act Section 401 Water Quality Certification for the Seminoe Pumped Storage Project proposed by rPlus Hydro. The project includes building a 13,000-acre-foot lake above Seminoe Reservoir and aims to generate approximately 900 megawatts of electricity. Concerns have been raised about its impact on local wildlife, particularly the Miracle Mile fishing area and bighorn sheep. The project requires additional permits and final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality has certified the Seminoe Pumped Storage Project, proposed by rPlus Hydro. The facility will feature a 13,000-acre-foot lake above Seminoe Reservoir, capable of generating 900 megawatts of electricity for up to 12 hours.
The project has raised wildlife concerns, particularly regarding the Miracle Mile fishing area and bighorn sheep herds. The certification fulfills obligations under the Clean Water Act to protect the North Platte River.
Further permits are required from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and others, with final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission expected later this year.
