Xcel Energy Initiates Transmission Line Upgrade in Colorado
Xcel Energy has commenced a project to rebuild a 69-kilovolt transmission line spanning approximately 23 miles. This upgrade aims to enhance reliability and safety while replacing outdated infrastructure.

Xcel Energy has initiated work on a transmission line project between Rifle, Silt, and New Castle. The project involves replacing a 69-kilovolt line that is over 60 years old and utilizing wood poles, which have reached the end of their useful life.
Crews are currently improving access roads and setting up foundations for new poles, with deliveries occurring along County Road 311. Helicopters are assisting in reaching difficult areas for heavy equipment.
Future phases will extend from New Castle to the Mitchell Creek Substation in Glenwood Springs. This effort is part of a broader initiative to upgrade transmission lines between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction, with expected outcomes of improved reliability and reduced safety risks.
