Xizang Autonomous Region Targets Over 7% GDP Growth in 2026 with Focus on Clean Energy and Infrastructure

Xizang Autonomous Region in southwest China aims for over 7% GDP growth in 2026, building on a 2025 GDP of 303.19 billion yuan (approximately 43 billion USD). Key initiatives include over 244 billion yuan investment in major projects like hydropower and the Sichuan-Xizang Railway, expanding installed clean energy capacity from 13 million kW to 20 million kW, and promoting digital technologies.

The region will also enhance tourism by integrating cultural industries and upgrading rural tourism. Additionally, Xizang plans to open 12 new border trade sites and invest 13.6 billion yuan in 34 livelihood projects, increasing preschool education subsidies. Ecological conservation efforts will include planting over 26,000 hectares of trees. 2026 marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period.
