Yanmar Receives ClassNK Certification for Hydrogen 4-Stroke Engine in Japan
Yanmar Power Solutions has received type approval and NOx certificates from ClassNK for its hydrogen-fueled 4-stroke high-speed engine, part of the Nippon Foundation's Zero Emission Ships Project. The certifications were obtained in late 2025, with plans to install two engines on domestic vessels for demonstration trials in fall 2026, alongside a hybrid electric propulsion system developed with Uyeno Transtech Co., Ltd.

Yanmar Power Solutions obtained type approval and NOx certificates from ClassNK for its hydrogen-fueled 4-stroke high-speed engine for coastal vessels, as part of the Zero Emission Ships Project by the Nippon Foundation. The type approval was secured in October 2025 and the NOx certificate in December 2025.
Yanmar plans to install two hydrogen engines on domestic vessels for demonstration trials in fall 2026. The project aims to advance hydrogen-powered zero-emission vessels and includes a hybrid electric propulsion system developed in collaboration with Uyeno Transtech Co., Ltd.
