Yokohama Tests Floating Data Center in Collaboration with Private Companies

ENERGY STORAGEDATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Yokohama city is conducting tests on a floating data center at Osanbashi Pier in collaboration with four companies: NYK Line, NTT Facilities, Eurus Energy, and MUFG Bank. This initiative, Japan's first floating data center, was formalized in a memorandum of understanding signed in March 2025.

The facility will be powered by renewable energy, featuring a solar generator and battery storage. The city will evaluate the equipment's resilience to salt damage over the next year. The project addresses the growing demand for data centers while supporting decarbonization efforts and has received recognition for its social significance.
