Yorkshire Water Completes £18M Upgrade to Dewsbury Wastewater Treatment Works
Yorkshire Water completed an £18 million upgrade to the Dewsbury wastewater treatment works, aimed at improving water quality in the River Calder by reducing phosphorus levels. The upgrade, executed with BarhaleEnpureJV, involved replacing 14 existing Primary Settlement Tanks with three larger ones and adding a new chemical dosing plant.
The facility, serving about 200,000 people, remained operational during construction. The upgrade surpassed regulatory standards, achieving a 90% reduction in phosphorus to meet the Water Industry National Environment Programme targets for England. Yorkshire Water has committed £350 million to phosphorus reduction across 85 sites by 2025.
