Young County Commissioners to Consider Tax Abatement for 300 MW Solar Project

The Young County Commissioners Court will review a tax abatement for the Tapaderos solar project, which includes a 300 MW solar facility and 200 MW battery storage. The meeting is scheduled for Jan. 26.
The project entails a 10-year 100% tax abatement with annual Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) totaling $1,142,913. Construction must start by Jan. 1, 2029, or the agreement will be canceled. Local residents have raised concerns, prompting a town hall meeting on Nov. 5, 2025.
The project includes environmental safeguards and equipment removal clauses. The battery units will support the local grid and are designed with fire suppression systems.
