Zambia Grants Copper Export Tax Waiver to Mopani Copper Mines
The Zambian government has suspended the export duty on copper concentrates for Mopani Copper Mines, effective February 27 to May 31, 2026. This waiver allows for the duty-free export of nearly 100,000 metric tonnes of copper concentrates, addressing local smelting capacity constraints.

Mopani Copper Mines will benefit from a temporary suspension of the export duty on copper concentrates, which enables the export of around 100,000 metric tonnes without incurring taxes. This measure, effective from February 27, 2026, to May 31, 2026, was announced by Finance Minister Dr.
Situmbeko Musokotwane. The initiative aims to support copper production in Zambia, which faces challenges due to limited local smelting capacity. The impact of this waiver could enhance the operational viability of Mopani Copper Mines and may influence market dynamics for copper exports during the waiver period.
